The Dog Fence (Dingo-Proof Fence) The Dog Fence, which is the longest man made structure in the world, protects the agricultural and sheep country from the native dingo. It extends from Queensland to the shores of the Great Australian Bight in South Australia. The Fowlers Bay Local Dog Fence Board administers the south-western extremity of the fence, which is constructed of wire netting. Large sections have a low, solar powered electric fence erected on the outer side, to deter wombats from breaching the barrier by burrowing beneath it. A boundary rider checks the fence on a regular basis. |
